Her hips didn’t lie…

… I have to give it to her. It was quite a splendid performance. Remember the crazy stuff that her hips do in her music videos; Well, thats not a lie.

Shakira would never really make it high on my playlist. To me she’s always seemed to be from the just-another-pop-video genre. But I guess the concert has changed some of my opinions. She is a fabulous dancer and a good entertainer… Her accent seemed strange and seductive ;)

Now, I would have conveniently given it a skip this time. Considering that I didn’t make it for Rodger Waters’ last month, it would have been quite unfair… (Ah’ and did I tell you about The Wall and PULSE concert videos that I enjoyed last weekend.)

Luck beckons. My cousin treats me to the Shakira concert yesterday evening!! Thanks to him I made it right upclose (well, almost) to the lady herself.

Shakira up-close

She performed most of her popular numbers, Whenever wherever, Underneath your clothes, Hips don’t lie, Objection and Illegal. There were quite a few latino tracks which I didn’t identify…

Next to her cheap silicon I look minimal
That’s why in front of your eyes I’m invisible
But you gotta know small things also count
You better put your feet on the ground

~Objection

For a moment I thought she was talking about Moore’s law, micro electronics and electrical earthing!

Shakira on screen

The large displays at the concert weren’t of the projection variety. They were infact a large array of LEDs. I’m not quite sure why they do this. The LED displays seemed to render whites as hues of yellow and orange.

Shakira was suave and charming. Some rope-trick belly dance of hers was quite fabulous too. She is a brilliant dancer, has a passable voice and a good stage presence.

I, of course, had a difficult time keeping my eyes off her clevage. ;) Hmm… Since we are at that… The eye-candy of Mumbai was all over the place. Lots of interesting looking women. Summer collections, you bet. :p

The grand finale was our dinner at this place my cousin had discovered earlier - Mumbai Times Cafe at the Eternity Mall.

Mumbai Times Cafe

Its a pleasant place to hang out over a light meal and drinks. We savoured some fish and chips for dinner. The cafe has a large screen which telecast the world-cup cricket live. The crowd seemed to be pretty laid-back and unpretentious. The menu is made to look like a tabloid news paper. Well, I could see some interesting deserts too. The best part is that the cafe is open well past midnight. Last orders by 1:30 am. Think we should go there a couple of times again…
